We are making available here two resources in anticipation of a thematic catalogue of Marcos Portugal’s secular music: 1. The text incipits of the operas; 2. The sources (available shortly).

In the case of the opera text incipits, the entries are in chronological order of the world première. They begin with a diplomatic transcription of the title page of the original libretto, together with the cast and other relevant data according to the same source. As for the incipits in themselves, the secco recitatives are indicated in normal letters, accompanied recitatives (whenever known through scores) in bold italics, arias duets, ensembles, choruses, etc. in simple italics but not bold. Their objective is above all to facilitate the identification of unidentified single excerpts.
